The Congress Working Committee (CWC) reiterated its commitment to the 1991 Places of Worship Act, accusing the BJP of violating it. The Act, which freezes the religious status of places of worship, is being challenged amid rising communal tensions in places like Sambhal.
The CWC also criticized the election process, alleging bias by the Election Commission (ECI) following poor electoral performance in Haryana and Maharashtra. The party announced plans to start a national movement to address these concerns.
Rahul Gandhi urged the party to take a firm stance on issues such as inflation, unemployment, and violations of the Places of Worship Act. Some leaders, however, suggested focusing on issues that resonate more with the public.
Party leaders like Ajay Maken and Ramesh Chennithala took responsibility for the losses in both states, citing mistakes in candidate selection and alleging the influence of EVM malfunctions. The CWC acknowledged that electoral malpractices had impacted the results.
The CWC decided to form committees to evaluate both the party’s electoral strategy and organization. Leaders also called for the reintroduction of paper ballots and alternative voting systems, pushing for a more transparent electoral process.
