Jaishankar Emphasizes Proper Handling of Disputes Following Modi-Xi Meeting

India emphasized the need to manage disputes effectively during a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping last month. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar informed Parliament that both leaders stressed maintaining peace and stability along the border areas.

The two sides also agreed to use dialogue mechanisms involving foreign ministers and other officials to strengthen and rebuild bilateral ties. This was part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the relationship after the military standoff in Ladakh in 2020.

During the summit, Modi welcomed the agreement on disengagement in the border areas and stressed the importance of handling differences without disturbing the peace along the border. Both leaders committed to utilizing various communication channels to resolve issues.

Jaishankar also met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the G20 Summit in Brazil, where they discussed future steps for improving India-China relations. Upcoming discussions include border issues, pilgrimages, data sharing, and flight connectivity.

On a separate note, Jaishankar informed Parliament about the government’s concerns regarding violence against minorities in Bangladesh. He stated that India had raised these issues with Bangladesh’s government and noted the steps taken to ensure the protection of minorities during the recent Durga Puja celebrations.
