Harinath Mishra named Secretary of Security in Cabinet Secretariat

Senior IPS officer Harinath Mishra has been appointed as the new Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat, according to a notice from the Ministry of Personnel. Mishra, a 1990-batch officer from the Kerala cadre, is currently serving as Special Director General in the Intelligence Bureau.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved Mishra’s appointment to succeed Swagat Das, who will retire on Saturday. As Secretary (Security), Mishra will oversee the Special Protection Group (SPG), which is responsible for ensuring the safety of the Prime Minister and his immediate family.

The role of Secretary (Security) includes managing the security arrangements for the nation’s top leaders, particularly overseeing the protection of the Prime Minister and his family at their official residence.

In another development, the Ministry of Personnel also announced the immediate curtailment of Dharmendra Sharma’s term as Director General of the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management. This move follows a request from the Election Commission of India.

Additionally, the ACC has approved the repatriation of Shantmanu, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor at the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, back to his parent cadre. Shantmanu, a 1991-batch IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre, will return to his home state following a request from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
