Coastal Security Exercise Begins at Rameswaram

Sagar Kavach, a two-day coastal security exercise aimed to assess the efficacy and robustness of the coastal security mechanism of 14 coastal districts in Tamil Nadu kicked off on Tuesday morning. As a part of it, the Mandapam marine police started an investigation about a mysterious Sri Lankan boat that entered near Mandapam on Tuesday.

District police, marine police, Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy will jointly conduct the Sagar Kavach exercise at Dhanushkodi, Rameswaram, Pamban, Mandapam, Keezhakarai, Erwadi, Valinokkam, Devipattinam, Thondi, Gulf of Mannar and Bag Jalasandi seaport in Ramanathapuram district. On Tuesday morning, the fishermen of the area informed the Marine police that a fibre boat from Sri Lanka was anchored in the beach area of Palk Strait at Mandapam. On inspection it was revealed that the boat belonged to Mannar district of Sri Lanka. This exercise will end at 6pm on Wednesday.
