Amazon workers in India have joined a strike to demand better wages and working conditions as the company enters its busiest shopping period. Around 200 warehouse workers and delivery drivers gathered in New Delhi under the “Make Amazon Pay” banner, some wearing masks of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

The protest, which coincided with Black Friday, was part of a global movement at Amazon warehouses. Workers worldwide are calling for higher pay, improved working conditions, and union rights.

Manish Kumar, a 25-year-old warehouse worker from New Delhi, expressed his dissatisfaction with the current pay, saying that the monthly salary of 10,000 rupees ($120) should be at least 25,000 rupees ($295). He also highlighted the pressure-filled work environment.

Nitesh Das, a union leader, said the workers were protesting to urge the government to address their concerns. They believe their demands for fair wages and better working conditions need to be heard.

In response, Amazon issued a statement accusing the workers of promoting a “false narrative” and misleading the public about the situation.
